The previous lesson’s where focused on a broader key questions, whereas this lesson will have a specific key questions for learners to elaborate. Students will consider the question “How do you use technology in your schooling and daily life?” as they communicate with students from the school’s Chinese Sister School.
The school in which this unit is undertaken has a strong relationship with their Sister School. Skype conversations occur regularly throughout all year levels within the school, hence this is not a new experience for students. Skype allows users to communicate freely by voice, video and instant messaging over the Internet. Microsoft has created a site ‘Skype in the Classroom’ which provides another opportunity for students and teachers to interact with others around the world. It also has links to guest speakers around the world that will happily talk to your class on a wide variety of subjects. This Youtube clip is an example of Skype talking to explorer Mark Wood during after his journey to Arctic.
