Learning Rationale: This lesson is designed to serve as an introductory lesson for the rest of the unit. The main goals are to engage students in the topic and create interest for following lessons, and to be used as a formative assessment piece to assess prior knowledge to assist with future planning in the unit. The lesson is also about helping students become comfortable with the technology they will be using in future lessons.
Lesson Goals: At the end of this lesson, students will have used the Inspirations Map app to demonstrate their prior knowledge regarding what they know about Asia. Students will have shown an ability to brainstorm through the help of technology. Students will have been engaged in the unit through the development of further questions that they will try to answer throughout the unit.

Lesson Outline
Teacher will introduce topic, ”What is Asia”
Teacher will show YouTube video on interactive whiteboard. “Fun Facts About Asia.”
Students must save Inspirations Map for future use
As a reflection activity, the class as a whole will make an Inspirations Map with the teacher on the Smartboard. This can be saved and utilised in later lessons.
Students develop 2 questions each they would like to learn the answers to through rest of unit.

- What is Asia?
- What you know about Asia?
- How do we Australians connect to Asia?
- Teacher shows class the Inspirations Map tutorial video (available in resources for lesson)
- Teacher gives class example of an Inspirations Map on Smartboard
- Teacher will place Quick-Reference card on Smartboard (available in resources for lesson)

- Students continue with Inspirations Map after video, to see video has prompted any further knowledge.
